Runescape: Surge Spells Review

From November 19, 2009.

Let's get to the point, the Magic skill is old and an update is absolutely needed. You know it, I know it, and at last, Jagex knows it. That's why we've finally gotten an update for it.

Four new spells have been made for high leveled Magic players. I was hoping for more, but I can settle for four. These new spells are called "surges" and you'll need at least 81 Magic to cast them.

There are four types of surges including wind, water, earth, and fire. To cast a Wind Surge, you'll need 1 Blood Rune, 1 Death Rune, and 7 Air Runes. To cast either a Water Surge, an Earth Surge, or a Fire Surge, you'll need those exact runes plus 10 of the corresponding runes for that particular spell. For example, you'll need 1 Blood Rune, 1 Death Rune, 7 Air Runes, and 10 Water Runes to cast a Water Surge.

The biggest question going here is how much damage can these spells do. According to the Runescape Database, the maximum hits range from 22 to 28 without any type of boosts. I'm not normally one to complain but, is that all?!

PROS:
+ We finally get a Magic update!
+ Not many runes are needed to cast these spells.

CONS:
- The maximum hits are low.
- We only get four spells.

Overall Thoughts and Rating:
This update is definitely something that we've been needing for quite some time but it's highly disappointing. However, it's still a pretty decent update as Magic is a skill that really needs some changes.
Rating: 3.5/5
